Ask Metal Man – FAQ
Lots of customers have some questions. Some customers have lots of questions. These Frequently Asked Questions provide details about how we operate and what you can expect from Metal Man.
I’ll tell you why we feel it’s important to explain everything. Recently, I found a very capable and trustworthy mechanic. Let’s call him, “Bob”. Before meeting Bob, car repairs worried me, because I wasn’t sure where to go or whom I could trust.
You might feel the same way right now. The idea of selling your gold or silver might worry you a bit, for the same reasons. But choosing a gold buyer doesn’t have to be a gamble. Get the information you need to make an informed decision. Click on any question below to view our answer.
If Bob isn’t one in a million, he must be one in a hundred at least. Now he’s the only guy I call for that service. We want you to feel the same way about Metal Man.

So the next question is, “Who will pay you a fair price?” Metal Man is your answer.
I will never ask a customer, “How much do you want for it?” That makes people uncomfortable, and most clients don’t know what their items are worth. You’re counting on us to give you a great price for your precious metal items, without any shenanigans. That’s exactly what Metal Man does.
The only exception: we pay a slightly higher rate for very large purchases.
Our typical customer is middle-class to upper middle-class. Some have had unwanted jewelry sitting around for a while. Others recently acquired estate jewelry or silver serving sets. Others gather items together to sell for a specific purpose. We also help various organizations conduct lucrative fundraisers.
Similarly, people come to us through different avenues. Many are happily referred by family, friends, or co-workers. Some call after discovering us other ways. All are looking for a trustworthy buyer and a fair price, which is why they choose Metal Man.
We post a Notice at the bottom of every page to make this crystal clear.
You don’t have to know this in advance, though. Call us for an appointment, or mail in your items. We’ll figure it out for you and give you a great price for real gold.

If you want postal insurance, you will need some type of document that proves your items’ replacement value. This can be a receipt of purchase, appraisal, or similar evidence. (Some online gold buyers claim to insure all packages; we have written an article that exposes this gimmick.) If you have proof of value, we can purchase insurance on your Metal Mailer for you.
The security of your items is our top priority. First, our packing instructions make sure your items are silent inside the box. Second, they will be secured within our durable plastic mailer and a USPS box. Third, your generic-looking package will be mailed to non-business address, so it won’t even display “Metal Man” on the label.
Please note that items may incur incidental or accidental damage during the examination process. Some pieces need to be scratched or filed in order to test their purity. Some pieces tangle and then break when we try to untangle them. We handle all items carefully, just in case a seller requests a return, but some damage may be unavoidable.
Metal Man wants to buy your gold and silver. That’s why we pay the original shipping cost, and make our best offer the first time. Few, if any, sellers request returns.
