We Care. We Give. Join Us.
“Speak up for those who have no voice, for the justice of all who are dispossessed. Speak up, judge righteously, and defend the cause of the oppressed and needy.” (Proverbs 31:8-9)
Metal Man is a family business. And our family loves people and the Lord who made all of us. Together, we give our time and money to three carefully selected organizations.
We share this because you might seek out socially active businesses. You might wonder if Metal Man aims to make a difference in the world around us. We do. Furthermore, we want to encourage you to join us in these efforts, or even to pursue them on your own.
Keep reading to find out how you can join Metal Man in freeing slaves, partnering with the poor, and rescuing the innocent.
Stomping Out Slavery
Slavery wasn’t abolished in 1862. It was declared illegal, in the United States. This was a huge step towards freedom for African-Americans, but not the finish line. And there’s still work to be done for people of all colors, all around the world.
Approximately 45 million people are enslaved illegally, worldwide, right now! Abolitionists and freedom fighters work to free these men, women, and children. You can help rescue people in bondage, bring their oppressors to justice, and help many more avoid enslavement.
This book, Not For Sale, is a good staring point to learn more.
International Justice Mission – IJM is the world’s largest anti-slavery organization. They rescue people around the globe, provide aftercare and legal defense, and work hard to prosecute the guilty. They also help fix broken “justice” systems and train authorities to effectively combat human trafficking. We’ll set up a fundraising page when they finish updating their tool.

Breaking the Cycle of Poverty
Part of my family is from Eastern Europe–the former Soviet Union. Living there for several years opened my eyes to a world outside of the United States. For brevity’s sake, I’ll just say that average living conditions there would probably shock most Americans.
It’s like that in many other parts of the world too. Hundreds of millions of people don’t have running water, dependable utilities, or solid shelter. Without opportunity or means, they struggle to survive.
“Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” – Anne Isabella Richie (slightly altered)
Kiva – What if he lives in Cambodia and can’t afford fishing gear but could fish for a living? Help him through Kiva. There you’ll find pre-screened borrowers in 82 countries. Choose a loan category, or geographic region, and lend as little as $25. The loan repayment rate is nearly 100%, and Kiva charges no interest or fees for the service. Join our new team!
This book, The International Bank of Bob, explains everything.

Rescuing the Innocent
Most of us agree that freeing captives and helping hardworking people out of poverty are worthy pursuits. The mission of saving unborn babies–the most innocent victims–is far more divisive, though. Yet these issues are closely related. Who cares about other people’s struggles if people have no intrinsic worth? But if people do have worth, then we should help if we can, especially those who cannot help themselves.
Isn’t that the underlying assumption when we talk about charity? That’s why it’s “good”.
Our family believes that all people are endowed by God with indisputable and unconditional worth. “All people” means all colors and abilities, rich or poor, able or disabled, healthy or sick, born or pre-born. So we volunteer with Cities 4 Life, a Gospel-centered pro-life ministry.
Cities 4 Life – Each day, C4L volunteers stand outside of Charlotte’s busiest abortion mill, providing information and assistance. This includes counseling, free health services, and contacts with local organizations that offer complimentary resources. We don’t yell or antagonize; we offer help, and many expectant mothers gratefully accept the offer. See lives saved, and changed. Contact Cities 4 Life now.
Watch the 3-minute video below to see how this is, among other things, a human rights issue.
Conclusion
You’ve probably heard terms like “social entrepreneurship” and “social enterprise”. Indeed, Metal Man is active in the local Metrolina community and beyond. In a way, those terms have become marketing phrases, though. We don’t serve for marketing purposes (nor do we publicize most of our service opportunities). We serve because that’s how we show God’s love for people; it’s our duty and privilege.
“Whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
In the same way, we view business as an opportunity to serve customers. Professionalism. Fair prices. Exceptional service. That’s what makes us different, and it’s why so many people choose Metal Man.
